Sandwiched In with Author Kelly McMasters
Join Port Washington’s own Kelly McMasters, an accomplished essayist, bestselling author and Hofstra professor as she discusses her new book, The Leaving Season: A Memoir in Essays. In these essays McMasters writes about navigating marriage and motherhood, art and ambition, grief and nostalgia, and the elusive concept of home. Described by author Joanna Rakoff as “a profound and beautiful book.… Never have I encountered a memoir that explores motherhood and marriage with such warmth, intimacy, and wisdom. Empire Safety Council Defensive Driving Course
The Empire Safety Council Defensive Driving Course will be offered on Saturday, April 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Seating is limited and registration is required and begins on Monday, April 1, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Priority will be given to Port Washington card holders. If you are not a Port Washington card holder, you will initially be placed on a Waiting List pending available space. Any available spaces will be filled from the Wait List 72 hours prior to the start of the class.
Payment of $33 via cash, check or money order, payable to "Empire Safety Council", will be collected by the instructor during class. There will be a 30 minute lunch break. (Please note that as of November 1, 2023 the fee increased to $33 from $30)

Earth Day 2024 Celebration at Sunset Park
PWPL invites YOU to our fourth annual outdoor Earth Day celebration at Sunset Park. Back by popular demand, Tony Traguardo, the Library’s resident musicologist and Media Librarian, will lead a band of local musicians in a rocking concert of Beatles hits at the Sousa Bandshell. In addition, representatives from the Town of North Hempstead and other Port Washington environmental organizations will be on site with important information about their latest sustainability initiatives. Stop at their tables to have a conversation. Take home some cool environmental “swag.” Bring your kids to the children’s table to make a fun eco craft. Participate in our community art project. Most of all, enjoy the music and the water view and find out important ways YOU can make a difference making our community a healthy and sustainable one.
The Earth Day celebration is funded by the PWPL Friends of the Library.

Advanced Beginner Guitar Lessons with Reno Bracchi
Join us for advanced beginner guitar lessons with PWPL's own Reno Bracchi. Classes will be on five Mondays: April 29, May 6, May 13, May 20 (no class on May 27) and June 3 – all classes are from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Learn advanced playing techniques and some well-known songs. This series is tailored for those who have already grasped scales and basic chords. Reno will assess your skills to see if you're ready for the advanced beginner level. To join, you'll need to bring an acoustic guitar, be a right-handed player, and have very short nails on your left hand. Open to PWPL cardholders aged 14 and above. Registration begins on Tuesday, March 12. Register at pwpl.org/events. Want to learn how to play guitar from step one? An absolute beginner series is coming Fall 2024!
