Welcome . . . and Thank You for Visiting Our Web Site!
Welcome to the Port Washington Public Library — your public library. The library has been serving the community since 1892 when it was housed in a local family’s front parlor. Today we’ve grown into a modern, technologically-involved, service-oriented institution — named by a national consortium of professional librarians as one of the 50 best in the nation.

The Port Washington Public Library serves the Port Washington School District and is funded primarily by local taxes levied on real estate. There is no charge for school district residents to join. Just come to the library with proof of residency and you’re a member. It’s as simple as that! Because we are a member of the Nassau Library System, your library borrower’s card entitles you to borrow books from any of the more than 50 other public libraries in Nassau County. Books borrowed elsewhere may be returned here. We also participate in a comprehensive Interlibrary Loan program whereby we can obtain from other sources materials which we do not own. Each month you will receive — free of charge — the library’s award-winning newspaper to keep you up-to-date on what’s happening at your library.

The secret of our success is in our commitment to providing the finest service to the community. Our staff is expert, our collection is large and varied, our dedication to excellence is traditional. Please become a frequent library user. Whether you come to the library to borrow books or videos, attend programs, use a computer, do homework, or engage in in-depth research — even if you just come in to use our photocopiers — you are welcome at your Port Washington Public Library.
