Eragon

Rating: star

Review: My friends and I went to see Eragon on Saturday. The movie was extrememly cheesy and could have been a lot better and longer. They left out way too much in the movie and the plot was altered and there were so many charectors left out in the movie. The dialoge was a little childish and was not really fit for a person older than 11 years old. The acting was not bad but not at its best either. I'm most unhappy for what they did to Arya. They completely messed up her character because her personality was too different in the movie than the book. The movie had a lot of potential but did not show it. The movie did not explain anything at all and was too short with the scenes. There were people booing in my theatre because they came in the with high expectations and came out disappointed. The movie was really bland and barely scratched the surface of anything. If you want to learn more about Eragon or the charectors in Eragon you would need to read the book. Those who have read the book and want to see the movie, bring your tissues and be prepared to be extremely disapointed. This movie is great for little kids; hence, it's rated PG. My friends and I came out of the theatre very down and treaded listlessly to our rides home. All and all the movie was COMPLETELY pointless. The only part I enjoyed in the movie was when Eragon killed the Shade.

Stick It

Review: One of the worst and stupid movies of the year.  It really is a pointless film.  I don't know how anyone can like this garbage.

Get Rich or Die Trying

Rating: starstarstarstar

Review: This movie was extremely poignat and ironic. It featured a good amount of symbolism about trust, love, and rebirth. The movie was surprisingly unpredictable--I mean, of course you know how it's going to end. But the middle part, oh baby.

It's like a psychodelic oreo. You know the beginning and the end, but you bite into it and the filling is like nothing you've ever had in an oreo.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Rating: starstar

Review: Drift back into chocolate land and you will understand what it is like in willy wonka's chocolate factory where all is edible and delectable. This movie starring Johnny Depp was a bit scarier than the first concerning Depp's makeup, and the plot behind it was closer to the book. The character's were well chosen coinciding with the parts they played. Overall I truly enjoyed the first movie rather than this one, unless of course you want to see the oompa-loompa's singing there songs-which i believe is in stores now on CD.

Lewis Black: Black on Broadway

Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Review: Lewis Black, a long time pundit on the Daily Show is full of passion. He is full of ideas on reform and telling things based on the facts.

Oh! And he's a comedian!

This movie is his one hour stint he had on boardway. The minute I put it in I was laughing. The way Lewis Black tells his humor is eloquent--- although it seems he needs help from figeting hand gestures to muster his confidence. The way he delivers is jokes is through deadpan rage. Now, you say, "how can deadpan be rage?" Well, Lewis Black is one of those comedians blessed with the gift of rarely laughing at his own jokes. If you're a liberal or conservative Black will appeal to you because he hates them both.

Why hasn't a politician running for office thought of that? Borrow it out from the Library, right now! All the laughing will give you washboard abs you can show off at the beach!

Coach Carter

Rating: starstarstarstar

Review: Coach Carter is a true story about a high school coach who challenges his high school players to honor their contract of academic achievement or face losing their sports program.

The significant beginning point in the movie is marked when a successful business man, Ken Carter played by Samuel L. Jackson, returns to the high school that he graduated from to take a job as coach. Upon starting his job as coach, Carter finds the current players are disrespectful, academically lazy and irresponsible. The players put sports ahead of their grades and Coach Carter sees this type of thinking as a sure road to failure.

Coach Carter requires his players to sign a contract that commits each player to carry a required academic average (an average higher than the high school required). Carter expects each student to live up to the academic requirement or the sports program will be ceased. But the ball players have issues of their own that fall outside of school and practice, subsequently, many of the students fall short of the required academic required.

Coach Carter cancelled the basketball games and eventually shut down the gym causing the parents and the students to become out raged. The basketball players unrealistically feel that shutting down the sports program will jeopardize their future livelihood.

It is fairly common knowledge that very few high school students go on to join the NBA (National Basketball Association). The ratio of high students entering the NBA is well into the millions. And Coach Carter, having been a record setting star athlete in high school, knows that nothing will serve these high students better than a solid education.

I recommend this movie for its dramatic content and its basketball action sequences.

The Grudge

Rating: starstarstarstar

Review: This movie, which was derived from a Japanese horror movie, had what it took to be #1 on the movie charts. It was entertaining, and extremely frightening; it had me sitting on the edge of my seat from scene one up until they showed the cast. Sarah Michelle Gellar showed that she worked hard on this film, practicing Japanese, and face expressions which told us she was very afraid of the haunted house. I don't want to give away the whole story, but I strongly recommend that you go watch it. It plays at the Main Street Movie theatre. I also recommend you watch this film at night. IT'LL BE SCARIER THAN IT ALREADY IS! *The only disappointing factor of this movie, was that you could not really understand some of the English that the Japanese people spoke. Other than that, it was G-R-E-A-T!

Farhrenheit 9/11

Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Review: A bit disturbing but altogether a good body of work. A reviewer in a French magazine said that it took cheap shots at Bush and was leftist propaganda. I don't know how a person for reform like M. Moore could have put Bush on a satin pillow. The images in the movie were very real and the information was researched with care. However, being bombarded with so much could be rather unnerving for some. There is a reason it's rated R. Most people just like to tear M. Moore down anyways.

M. Moore has this wonderful way of adding humor to all of his documentaries. Definately worth $9.50.
