YALSA’S Teens’ Top Ten-Vote Now!

The Teens’ Top Ten is a “teen choice” list, where teens nominate and choose their favorite books of the previous year! Nominators are members of teen book groups in fifteen school and public libraries around the country. Nominations are posted on the Thursday of National Library Week, and teens across the country vote on their favorite titles each year. Readers ages twelve to eighteen will vote online between August 15 and Teen Read Week™ (October 8-14, 2017)  on the . The winners will be announced the week after Teen Read Week.

TeenSpace invites you to celebrate Teen Read Week.  “Unleash Your Story” is the theme of this year’s national initiative to encourage teens to tell their own stories as well as find stories, biographies, autobiographies, folktales, and more in their local library. Bookmarks and reading lists will be available all week in TeenSpace.  Teen Read Week activities are made possible by the Friends of the Library.

The bestselling author of contemporary fantasy for kids and teens will visit her fans, and read from and discuss The Darkest Part of the Forest and The Coldest Girl in Coldtown.  Both titles will be available for purchase and signing.  This event is made possible by the Friends of the Library.

 

October Math Tutoring for Teens-Mondays

Monday, October 16 - October 30, 2017

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Teens who need assistance in math (sorry, no calculus!), including SAT/ ACT prep, are invited to work with Steven and Leona Handelman. No registration needed, but bring your own textbooks and materials.

4 p.m. to 5 p.m. when school is in session.

Babysitting Bookcamp (2-session workshop)

Thursday, October 19 - October 26, 2017

4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Session Dates: Thursdays October 19 & 26.

Topics include basic child care, minor first aid, and handling emergencies.  Led by RN Katherine Crean and the Port Washington Police Department. Followed by a brief Meet the Sitter Reception on October 26 at 5:30 p.m.  This reception is made possible by the Parent Resource Center.  No registration required.

Registration for the babysitting workshop begins October 2 for teens in grades 7-12.  Register here!
