Teen Summer Events 2012
In-person registration begins on June 11, in Teenspace. Programs are open to Port Washington teens (entering grades 7-12) as of September 2012. Notification of withdrawal must be given at least five business days before the program date in order for refunds to be made. Program fees are non-transferable. Call 883-4400, Ext. 148 for information and be sure to see our display case in the library’s lobby for samples of our summer crafts.

Teen Summer Reading Club
Students (entering grades 7-12) are invited to participate in this year’s Summer Reading Club.
Read books, write mini-reviews, win prizes! Register in TeenSpace or online at http://www.pwpl.org/teenspace/summer-reading-club/ beginning June 11. Visit TeenSpace to pick up a complete packet of reading club materials, including a sign-up prize, (while supplies last).
All summer teen programs are co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Teens Talk Books-Summer Discussion Series
Wednesdays June 27, July 18 & August 8 at 7 p.m.
Beat the heat and join the fun! The first book will be available for pick-up at time of registration. Free.
Thursday, July 5 at 7 p.m.
Join chef Jo-Ann Tiranno and learn how to make these mouth-watering homemade sandwiches. Some sweet, some zesty, all delicious. Workshop fee: $5.
Tuesday, July 10 at 7 p.m.
Teens Draw Steampunk
Steampunk embodies a time and a place; the late 19th century and a steam-powered world. Artist David O. Miller will show you how to capture it’s essence on paper. Workshop fee: $5.

Lights/Camera/ Special Effects!
Become part of the action and learn how to use a blue screen and apply digital movie production techniques with the Long Island Motion Picture Arts Center and Museum. Workshop fee: $5.

Steampunk Style; Jewelry/ Keychain Craft
Krafts with Karen will lead this hands on workshop where teens will create unique steampunk inspired bracelets or key chains. See a sample in our lobby display case. Workshop fee: $5.
Thursday, July 19 at 7 p.m.
Teens will learn how to juice a mixture of veggies and fruits with chef Jo-Ann Tiranno. Learn about the nutrients in different smoothies and taste various combinations. Workshop fee: $5.

“Steamboy” The Film (2005-104 min.)
Ray Steam receives a Steam Ball, a mysterious, powerful device, from his inventor grandfather and he finds himself in a murderous conflict over its possession. Directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. Free, no registration required.
Thursday, July 26 at 7 p.m.
Join photojournalist Michael Ach for a beginner photography workshop using professional digital equipment. Selected photographs from each participant will be displayed in TeenSpace in August. Workshop fee: $5.

Dead Men Do Tell Tales
Learn how forensic specialists read bones to uncover crime clues. Students will be challenged to examine real bones and hypothesize about the person’s age, gender and cause of death. Scientist Susan Beltrani of Hands of Science will lead this program. Workshop fee: $5.

Bow Wow Biscuit Bake
Made at the library and ready to take home and bake, these delicious treats will then be delivered to a local animal shelter. The Baking Coach will lead workshop and community service credit will be awarded. Workshop fee: $5.

Xbox Kinect Night
Join 2x-treme in a night of Xbox fun and try out the latest sports games for the Kinect game system. Workshop fee: $5.

Joanne Insinga will teach you how to impress your friends with the fine art of italic lettering. Learn lovely formal letterforms that can be used to create invitations, cards, envelopes, scrapbooks and poetry. Workshop fee: $5.
