Foundation Funds Digitization Project Will Make Unique Library Collections Accessible to the Public. The Port Washington Library Foundation announced a grant of $10,000 to the library’s Local History Center to fund a historic preservation project. Thousands of photographs, postcards, maps, written documents and audio-taped interviews about life in Port Washington over the past 200 years will be captured electronically and available via the library's website. The grant will enable the library to create a digital scanning station in its Local History Center. Under the direction of Elly Shodell, archivists will prepare materials, enter data, caption, organize and digitize carefully selected examples from the library’s unique historical collections. The project will benefit genealogists, researchers, students, teachers, authors, and all those who are interested in past and present people, places and events of Port Washington.
