Did you know that aside from being an information center, the Children’s Room is also a Recycling Center? Come down to the Children’s Room at the Port Washington Public Library and you can recycle the following items; new sneakers or gently used sneakers, plastic bottle caps, glue-sticks, plastic bottles and aluminum cans.

Comp4Kids: This not-for-profit collects and refurbishes used laptops, then distributes them throughout Long Island to low-income areas.

Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington: This is a local environmental action group. They frequently take part in main street and park cleanups. They also help inform local Port Washington residents of environmental projects taking place in town.

Town of North Hempstead’s Sanitation and Recycling Homepage: Be sure to check out the resident electronic waste drop-off where you can recycle your batteries, light bulbs, old televisions and other e-waste items. The drop off service is open every Sunday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm at 999 West Shore Road in Roslyn. Click here for directions.
