Books for Dessert
The library hosts “Books for Dessert,” a book club for adults over 21 with intellectual disabilities, who live or work in and around Port Washington, and who have little or no reading ability. Members meet weekly to enjoy and discuss books – and life.
The program welcomes new members. If you know anyone who may be interested, please contact Keith Klang at 516-883-4400, ext. 135 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
If you are an organization or individual interested in replicating this program in your community, let us know. Our book club program is in its 8th year and is very successful. The groups have read books and stories of all kinds in adapted versions – from The Prince and the Pauper to Shirley Jackson’s The Lottery. The Library has prepared a program guidebook to help you get started.
