A horse breeder’s daughter (Jean Harlow, in her final film) is engaged to an upstanding millionaire (Walter Pidgeon) but is drawn to a brash bookie (Clark Gable). Jack Conway’s movie also stars Frank Morgan, Una Merkel and Lionel Barrymore as Harlow’s grandfather. Also, Midnight (1939-95 min.) follows a penniless showgirl (Claudette Colbert) as she impersonates a Hungarian countess with the help of an aristocrat (John Barrymore). But can she keep herself from falling in love with a poor Hungarian cabbie (Don Ameche)? Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett scripted Mitchell Leisen’s romantic comedy. 1:30 p.m.
