HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WILLIAM HAINES! Charles William Haines (born January 2, 1900, died December 26, 1973) was a star of the silent era. In the 1930s, his career was cut short by MGM Studios due to his refusal to deny his homosexuality. He never returned to film and instead started a successful interior design business with his life partner. In Edward L. Sedgwick’s West Point (1927-95 min.), Haines plays brash, wealthy West Point cadet Brice Wayne, who scores on the football field but angers fellow students, and his girlfriend Betty Channing (Joan Crawford), with his arrogance. David Davidson supplied the musical score. 7:30 p.m.
