Opera Lecture

AFTERNOON AT THE OPERA: The Pirates of Penzance. It was a topsy-turvy world created by gilbertandsullivan, whose run-on name reflected the extraordinary harmony and richly interwoven lyrics and music that came to characterize their finest works. A comic opera of mistaken identity, the pompous prizing of one’s status, and the devious ways in which one’s birthday may not be one’s “birth day.” Join Professor James Kolb for this audio/visual extravaganza. 3 p.m.
