A GRETA GARBO DOUBLE BILL: In Kevin Brownlow and Christopher Bird’s Garbo (2005-86 min.), friends, family members and film historians remember the Swedish-born screen goddess, who left Hollywood at the height of her career to live in seclusion in Manhattan. Julie Christie narrates; Carl Davis composed the score. After a brief intermission we present Monta Bell’s Torrent (1926-88 min.), a tale of two star-crossed lovers, Spanish nobleman Don Rafael Brull (Ricardo Cortez) and peasant-girl-turned-opera-star Leonora (Garbo). Dorothy Farnum scripted, with intertitles by Katharine Hilliker and H.H. Caldwell, from the novel by Vicente Blasco Ibanez. Arthur Barrow provided the musical accompaniment. 7 p.m.
