FILM MOVEMENT FILM FESTIVAL: Foreign Letters (2012-99 min.). Life brightens for Ellie (Noa Rotstein), a 12-year-old immigrant from Israel, when she meets Thuy (Dalena Le), a Vietnamese refugee her age. Trust slowly builds as the two teach each other about life in America, but when they eventually find themselves betraying each other, Ellie must give up her most prized possession in order to save their friendship. Writer/director Ela Their, who plays the role of Ellie’s mother, based this story on her own experiences.
