HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FRIZ FRELENG! Animator Isadore “Friz” Freleng was born on August 21, 1906 in Kansas City, MO. Despite having no formal art training, Friz landed a job at Walt Disney studios working on the silent “Alice” series before moving to Warner Bros. and their Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series, earning himself five Oscars for Best Animated Short. Tonight we present fifteen cartoons made between 1947 and 1961, all starring the faux-naïve yellow bird Tweety and his nemesis, the sputtering cat Sylvester (both voiced by Mel Blanc). Note the early start time: 7 p.m.
