Friends & Family Day 2009 Draws Crowds

The Friends of the Library welcomed hundreds of patrons to free events it sponsored as part of its annual Friends & Family day on Saturday, November 7. In the morning, a jam-packed audience enjoyed the comedic and mysterious talents of Magic Al in a performance for school-age children. In the afternoon a paperback swap attracted well over 200 book lovers and thousands of books – fiction, nonfiction, adult, childrens — were freely exchanged. In the lobby, the Friends welcomed library visitors with literature, raffles, give-aways and a friendly presence. As part of the day’s festivities, the FOL awarded prizes to teens who participated in a TeenSpace book review contest. The winners, who earned gift certificates to Dolphin Book Shop, were 10th grader Jennifer Kim and 7th grader Ali McCann. In addition, the FOL conducted a free raffle for a backpack of children’s books, which was won by Sophie and Julian White.
