Sunday October 4, 2009: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

On Sunday the Friends sponsored the first ever FOL University, modeled on the popular concept of a one-day university. An audience of 80 heard two renowned academics lecture on two fascinating topics.

Dr. Edward Mendelson, Lionel Trilling Professor in the Humanities, Columbia University, discussed Why Virginia Woolf Disliked Symbols, while Dr. Christos P. Ioannides, Director, Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, Queens College, CUNY, spoke on Turkey, Islam, and the Challenge of the European Union.
This event was partially sponsored by the Ronnie Crane Memorial Fund of the Port Washington Public Library.
